Our History

My name is Aziz, I am Berber, born in the desert, and I have always lived here, in the heart of the Merzouga dunes. The sand, the wind, the stars… it’s all a part of me. The nomadic way of life, I didn’t learn it from books: I live it, I cultivate it, day after day. It’s in my blood, in my actions, in every moment I share with those who come to discover this unique corner of the world.
For years, I have worked in the family inn, where I have had the chance to welcome travelers from all over the world. I discovered the pleasure of introducing people to my desert, through 4×4 excursions, discussions around the fire, and shared laughter under the stars.
This is where Merzouga Outdoors was born, a passion project that I pursue every day.
I offer you:
overnight bivouacs in Quechua tents for a simple and authentic immersion in the dunes,
multi-day bivouacs in rooftop tents mounted on my 4x4s, for those who want to experience the Sahara on the move,
dune driving courses, for adventure and off-road driving enthusiasts.
I welcome tourists from all over the world: I speak Berber, Spanish, French, English, and Italian, so that everyone can feel at home here.
At Merzouga Outdoors, there is no artificial decor. There is the truth of the desert, human warmth, Berber hospitality, and a deep desire to share who we are, unvarnished, with generosity.
My dream? That every traveler leaves with memories etched in their heart, the silence of the desert in their ears, and the desire to return.

At Merzouga Outdoors, our mission goes beyond organizing excursions. What we want is to experience the desert differently.
We were born here, in these dunes, and we grew up to the rhythm of the wind, sand, and silence. What we share with our visitors is not just a landscape: it is our life, our culture, our desert, as we know it, far from the beaten path.

Aziz is a passionate desert guide, based in Merzouga, at the gates of the Moroccan Sahara. Born and raised here, in this majestic yet arid region, he knows every dune, every corner of Erg Chebbi like the back of his hand. With over 20 years of experience, he learned from a young age to read the desert with unparalleled precision: the winds, the tracks, the stars… everything speaks to him.
Aziz is an expert in 4×4 driving, capable of navigating through the most demanding terrains, crossing dunes with impressive mastery and fluidity. The safety and comfort of his passengers are always his priority.
Beyond his role as a guide, Aziz is a true ambassador of Saharan culture. He shares with generosity and passion his knowledge of the fauna, flora, nomadic traditions, and local history. Calm, smiling, and always attentive, he knows how to adapt each adventure to his visitors’ desires, whether for a sporting experience or a peaceful discovery of the breathtaking desert landscapes.
